New Episodes of 'Whose Line?' in Summer 2013!
Following Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza on GSN a couple years ago (which only lasted for 1 season), the real "Whose Line is it Anyway?" is making a comeback! At least 10 new episodes are being filmed this spring to air on The CW this summer! The news has been confirmed by the network and the show's stars. Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles and Wayne Brady are all returning as regulars, but unfortunately Drew Carey will not be the host. Comedian Aisha Tyler will take over hosting duties while Drew continues his day job on "The Price is Right". It's been a long time, but the show we all love is finally back!

Drew Carey Hosting 'Whose Line'-Like Improv Show on GSN in 2011!
For everyone who has asked for years, "Why don't they just bring 'Whose Line?' back?!" we now have the answer and a worthy alternative! Drew Carey and GSN (Game Show Network) have announced a new half-hour primetime TV series that will rely on audience suggestions, not producers' ideas, for improv comedy sketches. Drew will host and many cast members from WLiiA and Drew Carey's Improv All-Stars will participate! It will tape at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas during January and February for a spring 2011 premiere.

When asked why he is creating a new show instead of reviving "Whose Line?" Drew said too many people own a part of WLiiA for it to work out. They couldn't come to terms with ownership and finances. While that is disappointing, news of a fresh show is just as exciting! For more information about the announcement, check out this article. Updates about the currently untitled GSN show will be posted here when they become available!

'Best of' Whose Line DVD Set to be Released June 9th!
TVShowsonDVD.com has just been given word from Warner Home Video that a new DVD collection of the U.S. version of Whose Line? will be on store shelves June 9th! Although it's not the complete 2nd season as we had hoped, their new strategy for these releases sounds like a good idea. The upcoming DVD set will feature 10 of the series' funniest episodes on two discs - completely uncensored! No word on any bonus features yet. Here are the included episodes:
  1. Show No. 308 "Ryan smashing head" (First Aired: Thursday June 14, 2001)
  2. Show No. 401 "good show with Wayne as Singing Bass and kissing Colin" (First Aired: Thursday September 6, 2001)

  9. Show No. 419 "Fluff your Garfield" show
  10. Show No. 612 Jerry Springer in "Dubbing" game / Colin dancing in "Greatest Hits" game
What an excellent selection of classic moments! It would have been nice to get more than 10 episodes, but WHV is still showing interest in Whose Line? and that means we have a good chance of further releases in the future! Information on where to purchase "The Best of Whose Line is it Anyway?" will be available soon, so check back for updates. Thanks to Matt for the heads up!

More Whose Line DVDs Coming in 2009!
In a recent online chat with the Home Theater Forum, Warner Home Video stated that more DVDs for the American Whose Line Is It Anyway? are on their way! They could not divulge too much information yet, but here is their exact quote: "We are putting together another release for Whose Line. Look for it in 2009."

On a related note, WHV mentioned they currently have no plans to release Season 2 of The Drew Carey Show on DVD. Thanks to Matt for the update! Hopefully within the next few months we will get official confirmation of an exact release date for Season 2 of Whose Line? Check back soon for future developments!

Sales Update on U.S. Whose Line's Volume 2 DVD Set
Warner Home Video consultant and fellow Whose Line? fan, Kevin Carvell, recently took some time to provide an update on the current status of the Drew Carey hosted American version of the show. Unfortunately, there's no good news to share at this time. Following the impressive sales of the Season 1, Volume 1 DVD collection, the Season 1, Volume 2 DVD set has not carried that momentum. Although he does not have exact numbers to provide, he was able to do some checks with retailers and say that sales for the 2nd volume were down "quite a bit." As a result, our hopes for more DVD releases may be in danger!

Of course, we can't let all our hard work up to this point go waste by allowing WHV to stop after only releasing one season on DVD. We have to continue showing more interest than ever and convince them to continue making our favorite show available for all to enjoy! If you have not yet purchased Season 1, Volume 2 of Whose Line? please show your support and pick up a copy at your local video store or online. In addition, Kevin Carvell pointed out that Warner Home Video takes our campaigns seriously when considering future releases - especially the votes at TVShowsOnDVD.com [quick & easy registration required before voting] and the Alert Me lists on Amazon.com.

It's important to remember that just because some episodes have been made available on DVD, we are NOT guaranteed to get the other 200 episodes too! We have to keep fighting to convince Warner Home Video that demand is still strong and that Whosers are still here!

Heck, I'd say it's even bigger than his dick!

Congratulations to Dean and thanks to everyone who submitted a hoedown for the contest!

Hoedown DVD Contest for Seasons 1 & 2 of British "Whose Line?"
As mentioned in the previous news update, the nice folks who put together the DVD set of the 1st & 2nd seasons of the U.K. version of WLiiA have allowed Whose-Line.com to give away a free copy of the 4-disc collecion! Here are the details on how the contest will work:

We're going to play the popular game from the show, Hoedown! Contest entrants must write a hoedown about any one of the series cast members, from either the British or American version. All entrees must be sent using the email form located HERE by February 15, 2008. I will review all of them and pick the five (5) I like the best. These finalists will have their hoedowns posted here at Whose-Line.com for this site's visitors to vote for which one they like the best. Whoever gets the most votes by February 29, 2008 will be the winner and receive a free copy of Seasons 1 & 2 of the British "Whose Line is it Anway?" Learn more about this DVD collection here!

Stay in line with the hoedown format used on the show and feel free to be R-rated with your language if that's the direction you choose to go in. However, please keep in mind some extreme entrees may be partially censored when posted to the site, if necessary. Try to have some fun with this and be creative with your hoedown! One last note... this contest is only open to those in the 48 continental United States. Sorry Alaskan, Hawaiian, & international visitors.

British Version of "Whose Line is it Anyway?" DVD Overview
Although this website is solely focused on the American version of Whose Line is it Anyway? and getting the entire series released on DVD, I think it is worthwhile to acknowledge that the original British version of the show is currently in the midst of getting DVD releases as well (partially due to the impressive sales of Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the U.S. version's first season). Since the two shows share a common name, format, and many of the same performers, I thought it would be interesting to compare the two programs as they both see a renewed life on home video. To go along with this, Whose-Line.com will be holding a contest soon to give away a free copy of the 4-disc collection featuring seasons 1 & 2 from the U.K. show! Stay tuned for details in the coming week or so!

I will admit that I had only seen a few episodes here & there of the original British version of Whose Line? up until now, so when I took the time to watch the Seasons 1 & 2 DVD set (released in March 2007 and available online & in stores now) I was curious what I would think about it. While I still prefer the U.S. version hands down, I do think most WLiiA fans will be intrigued and enjoy the U.K. series. It is very interesting to see how the show got its start and how it evolved over time (even in just these first 2 seasons).

For example, the initial pilot episode features a horribly nervous and sweaty Clive Anderson as host, in addition to an odd-looking stage set that was used just once. Of course, he settled into his role and did just fine as he got more comfortable. Drew Carey is a far more enjoyable and likable host, in my opinion, but Clive certainly has a dry wit about him that brings a different & refreshing dynamic to the show. In addition, British TV is not quite as locked-down as American TV, so more edgy material could get by the censors.

As far as the performers, there are some unique characters in the mix that have varying styles to satisfy a wide range of humor types. Josie Lawrence (who appeared on one memorable episode of the American version) and especially Mike McShane were the standouts for me. Fans of Greg Proops and Ryan Stiles will be happy to see their debut appearances on this DVD set, too. Surrounded by a different group of cast members, the two veterans from the U.S. series were just starting to develop their own styles at this point.

The most interesting part of the DVDs had nothing to do with the show's episodes, however. Instead, it was the 40-minute interview with creators & producers Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson. This is the first time I have seen the men behind Whose Line is it Anyway? talk about how the show came to be, what their thoughts were on certain performers, why they chose to do certain things throughout the 15+ years of making both the U.K. & U.S. versions, as well as the people who didn't make it through auditions but later went on to become massive stars. Any fan of either version of the show will enjoy this bonus feature & be interested in hearing more from them. Warner Brothers should be ashamed of themselves for not producing interviews & behind-the-scenes looks like this for the American DVDs that have been released thus far. Hopefully they take a cue from A&E and include something similar with cast and/or crew members on their next releases.

"Whose Line is it Anyway?" Season One, Volume Two Released on DVD Today!
A long year and two weeks after the release of Season One, Volume One, we have finally been given the 2nd half of the show's first season on DVD! It's been a long wait, but the good news is that Warner Bros. was confident enough in the sales of the first edition to put out another. Please remember to buy your copy so we can all continue to enjoy (hopefully more frequent) future DVD releases!

In regards to upcoming DVD collections, Warner Bros. consultant and fellow WLiiA fan, Kevin Carvell, has said that he is hoping for a quicker release schedule and that there is a possibility of different kinds of bonus features such as interviews with the cast. None of this is finalized until the announcement of a release date, but the prospects of this extra content is definitely exciting! Don't forget to continue using the Campaigns page to find out what you can do to show Warner Bros. interest in "Whose Line?" on DVD is just as strong as ever!

One last tidbit for everyone... Drew Carey starts his hosting tenure on "The Price Is Right" next week on Monday, October 15th! Early media reports say that Drew is doing a fine job and injecting quite a bit of energy and fun to the show. Tune in if you get a chance!

Drew Carey Announced As The New Host Of "The Price Is Right"
Although not an update about WLiiA on DVD, it's certainly of interest to the show's many fans that Drew Carey was named as the host of "The Price Is Right" today, replacing the legendary Bob Barker! He made the announcement tonight on CBS's "The Late Show with David Letterman," while also promoting his new primetime game show coming to CBS August 7th, "The Power of 10." For those of us who are fans of Drew's ventures outside of "Whose Line?" such as his sitcom, "The Drew Carey Show" (now available on DVD, by the way), this is great news! To watch a video of Drew's appearance, click here!

Season One, Volume Two DVD Update
I've been hearing that while sales of the first DVD collection
of "Whose Line?" were great leading up to and during the holiday season, they have expectedly slowed quite a bit in the past few months. This is normal for a release that has been on the shelves for almost 9 months and is nothing for fans to be concerned about. The good news is that TVShowsOnDVD.com is reporting that Warner Brothers is expecting a release of Season One, Volume Two by the end of the year! No official statement has been made by the studio, but it's certainly something to look forward to hearing about later in 2007!

WLiiA DVD Sales Update
For those of you who were curious about the public's reaction to WLiiA on DVD, I just got an update from Kevin Carvell stating that sales for Season One, Volume One, of "Whose Line?" have been "amazing!"
They've even been picking up as the holidays grow closer! The success of the U.S. show's DVD debut played a major role in the recent announcement of A&E's plans to release the original U.K. version next year, as well. Despite this great news, there has been no word yet on when we can expect Season One, Volume Two of the U.S. series. Hopefully some information will be known soon!

WLiiA COMING TO DVD SEPTEMBER 26th!
Finally, after all our years of trying, waiting, and wondering if our favorite improv show would ever make it into our DVD players, it has just been announced that "Whose Line is it Anyway?" will be released on DVD, September 26, 2006!  "Season 1, Volume 1" will be hitting retailers' shelves in two versions - one with the episodes as they were originally broadcast and one UNCENSORED! This first collection will feature the first 10 episodes of the first season as well as brand new footage that never made it to TV on two discs! Our efforts have paid off and Warner Home Video (with the help of our friend Kevin Carvell) gave us exactly what we wanted. Congratulations to everyone who helped with the campaigns and supported the goals of this website since its start in 2003. Now that we have our first helping of "Whose Line?" on the way, the only things left to do are to eagerly wait for September 26th and ensure the other 200 episodes are released on DVD too!

News from WHV Consultant!
I just received an update from Warner Brothers consultant, Kevin Carvell, about the latest status of WLiiA coming to DVD... They have completed the "gathering" stage and are no longer accepting fan suggestions at the email address specified in news entries below. Unsurprisingly, Whose Line fans came through and made the campaign a huge success, generating 614 emails in only four & a half months! To everyone who participated, Kevin was sure to point out that "every one of them has been read and considered during our consultations with our friends at WHV." As for where they need to go from here, there still has not been a decision about how or when the DVDs will be put together for fans. "I'll continue to put the pressure on for the top fan suggestions," he promised. Remember to check back for additional news soon!

Also, don't forget to continue visiting http://www.watchwhoseline.com and leaving messages on the studio's message board to show your support for this project! And here's even more good news for Whosers... "Whose Line is it Anyway?" is now the #4 ranked show on TVShowsOnDVD.com! With nearly 4100 votes, it recently surpassed the classic sitcom, "Get Smart," during its ascent to the top and is within striking distance of the 1960s favorite, "Batman"!

As reported in detail below under January 25th, "Whose Line is it Anyway?" is coming to DVD! However, that doesn't mean we can stop working at it and just wait for them to come. If you haven't already, please visit the site and fill out the quick registration form to vote for Whose Line! In addition, Kevin Carvell has set up a WLiiA website at http://www.watchwhoseline.com where fans can get some info on the show and leave notes on their message board to let Warner Brother know what you want on the upcoming DVDs! Remember to email dvd@watchwhoseline.com with your suggestions, as well!

Message From Kevin Carvell About Release of WLiiA DVDs!
Kevin Carvell, a consultant at Warner Bros., has sent this message with information about the upcoming release of "Whose Line is it Anyway?" on DVD!

It does give me great pleasure to confirm though that Whose Line is it Anyway? is indeed finally coming to DVD.  YOUR persistence is paying off.  If it wouldn't have been for all of you doing what you were doing out there, I wouldn't have had the ammo I needed to do what I was doing on the inside.  You should all be very proud.

So, where do we stand?  Well, it's very early.  It's in the works but there are no specific plans.  It's certainly not a time to be complacent.  I still would recommend that everyone continue with the postcards, petitions, e-mails, etc.  Act is if nothing has changed.  If Warner Home Video begins to detect a lack of interest, they won't hesitate to move in a different direction.

Some of you have also asked whether or not I'll be consulting on the DVD as well.  You bet.  As a matter of fact, we discussed a few things Monday.  Additionally, we've set up a suggestion e-box.  We want to know what you think regarding all aspects of this DVD release.  We'll continue to collect your suggestions and will consider what you want the most as we consult with WHV in the coming months.  Please send your suggestions to: dvd@watchwhoseline.com

Thank you as always for your interest and support.  Take care.

Regards-
Kevin

Great job to everyone who has participated in the campaigns to help make this happen! Like Kevin said, don't stop pressuring WHV quite yet. Please send your suggestions & requests for FULL SEASON SETS to the email address above. Keep in mind this is not an email address to flood with messages saying you want Whose Line on DVD. The purpose is to let them know what you want the DVDs to include, such as uncensored episodes, interviews, unreleased games, audio commentaries, behind the scenes footage, etc. We're almost there!

WARNER BROS WORKING ON WLIIA DVDS!!!
That's right! Finally, Warner Home Video has expressed plans of releasing Whose Line on DVD! They're reportedly in the very early stages of development, but nonetheless, it's on their to-do list! This news was originally posted by TVShowsOnDVD.com where WLiiA ranks 9th among all TV shows. Right now, WHV doesn't know how to release it quite yet but of course we all want full season sets! It's important to keep the campaigns going to let them know there's still an interest and that we want every episode from every season on DVD, rather than just random episodes matched together on volumes or "best of" collections! Congratulations to everyone who has made some sort of effort to help get this great show on DVD!

No New Whose Line's in January
ABC Family is not scheduled to air any unseen episodes of "Whose Line?" in January. The rest of season 8 is expected to air later on in 2006. Check back for updates.

Improv All-Stars Tour Concludes! WLiiA Goes Christmas!
Drew Carey & the Improv All-Stars have completed their 60-date nationwide tour, presented by Comedy Central. At this time, the cast is going to enjoy a much needed break so no new dates are expected in the near future. Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood, however, are still on the road with their two-man tour.

There won't be any new episodes of WLiiA on ABC Family this month thanks to the network's "25 Days of Christmas." There is one Christmas-themed episode on December 12 at 9pm ET, though.

Dark Future For Green Screen
Jonathan Mangum confirmed that a 2nd season of "Drew Carey's Green Screen Show" is not likely. The show has averaged only 300,000-400,000 viewers, which is apparently about half of what they needed to offset the cost of the animation. There still may be hope, but don't expect to see anymore new episodes. Comedy Central is continuing to air reruns throughout the week into at least mid- December, however.

Shake-up at Warner Brothers: New President for WHV
Ron Sanders has replaced Jim Cardwell as the president of Warner Home Video. Anybody planning on sending letters or postcards to WHV, please make sure they are addressed to Ron Sanders. All of the campaigns have been updated with the new information.

New Green Screen Time Slot!  WLiiA on DVD Update!
Ending the head-to-head competition with the 8th season of "Whose Line?", Comedy Central appears to have moved "Green Screen" to Tuesdays at 7:30pm ET. This is in effect for 2 weeks with 2 brand new episodes. Then, on November 15 they have a repeat of The WB's first episode at 7pm ET. As always, to keep up to date with schedule changes, look at Comedy Central's website every few days.

A little encouragement for WLiiA fans... the show is now ranked 10th at TVShowsOnDVD.com! Warner Brothers is known to look at this site when looking for future titles to release, so this is a major victory for everyone!

ABC Family Gives WLiiA An 8th Season!
Just as they did this past January, ABC Family has compiled 20 never-before-seen episodes of "Whose Line is it Anyway?" from unaired footage of past tapings! The new season 8 episodes will be part of a 3-hour block of "Whose Line?" every Monday, with the new show airing at 9pm ET. However, it seems like ABC Family is trying to compete with "Green Screen" on Comedy Central by airing the new WLiiA at the same time. Luckily, Comedy Central repeats the new "Green Screen" shows throughout the week. You can find an updated schedule here.

WLiiA Insider Speaks About DVDs!
Before I get to the big update, I want to let everyone know that a new fax number has been put on the campaigns page. The old number was incorrect and has now been fixed. In addition, a new "Green Screen" video has been posted from Comedy Central's FNSU special with Drew & the Improv All-stars.

A few weeks ago, I got in contact with Kevin L. Carvell, a consultant for Warner Bros. who has worked on "Whose Line?" as well as "Green Screen." When asked about the possibility of "Whose Line is it Anyway?" DVDs and what fans can do to make it happen, he wrote:

"Ahhh yes... the DVD.  Well, along with trying to get more new episodes aired over the years I too have been lobbying (from within) for the series to be released on DVD.  You can be sure that the powers-that-be know about all of you too... and the demand for this release.  Sadly, it's not yet slated for release.  I have been in (and out of) talks with Jim Cardwell, the president of Warner Home Video and others from that division.  You can be sure that I'll continue to keep the pressure on.  I didn't give up on GARGOYLES, THUNDERCATS, or THE MUPPET SHOW... I certainly won't back down on WHOSE LINE? anytime soon either.

What more can the fans do?  Well... I had a look at your fantastic site and you've got it all.  E-mails are great... and you've got links to that.  What really works though... good old-fashioned letters and postcards... you've got some great resources for that too.  Postcards would probably be best in this day of postal terrorism.  Additionally, postcards are a little harder to ignore than e-mail.  Keep pushing people to make their voice heard at TVShowsOnDVD.com too.  I know for a fact that WHV is aware of this site and others.  They have people that keep an eye on things like this.  As a consultant, I do as well.  Bottom line... keep doing what you're doing.  Don't get discouraged.  You and all of the fans are doing a fantastic job and are being heard.  We'll make this happen yet!"

There you have it, right from an insider at Warner Bros. who is also a fan of the show. The fans DO have the power to get WLiiA on DVD, so don't think you won't make a difference! Please do all that you can to participate in our campaigns & spread the word about this site. We want to make sure every fan of the show knows where they can go to do their part!

Nationwide Improv All-Stars Tour
A nationwide tour of the United States has just been announced for Drew Carey's Improv All-Stars! The tour will begin on September 16th and go through late-November and will feature the following performers: Drew Carey, Greg Proops, Jeff Davis, Chip Esten, Kathy Kinney, Jonathan Mangum, & Sean Masterson! (For those wondering, Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood are not able to perform with the All-Stars due to prior committments on their own tour as a duo). Oh, and by the way... the tour is being dubbed by venues as the "Green Screen Tour presented by Comedy Central". Knowing that and the fact that "Drew Carey's Green Screen Show" is supposed to return to TV sometime this year on a new network... well, you can see the connection. Of course, nothing's official until a formal announcement is released. More details to come soon! In the meantime, head over to the Improv All-Stars' official site for the latest tour dates!

Site Redesign

To celebrate this site's 2nd anniversary, I decided to totally redesign it and give it the title of "Whose Line is it Anyway?" on DVD Campaign Central! In addition to the new look & name, the WLiiA on DVD campaigns have been updated with new contact information, including phone & fax numbers. As an update, "Whose Line?" is currently ranked #11 out of thousands of unreleased TV shows on TVShowsOnDVD.com! It's only 200 votes out of the top 10! This site has strong ties with the executives at Warner Bros. Home Video so they are no doubt aware of WLiiA's popularity & fan base! Be sure to spread the word about all of our campaigns to help increase our chances at success!

As previously reported, "Drew Carey's Green Screen Show" is slated to return to TV later this year on a new network! The specifics aren't known at the moment but our Green Screen page has been expanded to a complete sub-site of WLiiA on DVD Campaign Central! Now there is specific episode information, more videos, more photos, & more quotes! Take a look and stay tuned for updates on this fun series' upcoming return!

WLiiA on DVD News

While this doesn't mean that WLiiA is necessarily going to be released on DVD, it does show that Warner Bros is at least acknowledging and considering it!  Visit the Campaigns page to show Warner Bros that you support WLiiA on DVD! (Thanks Randy)
